Session 5: Metastatic Breast Cancer

Friday, November 17     3:00pm – 4:00pm

Description

While mortality rates for breast cancer are decreasing, metastatic breast cancer (MBC) remains incurable. A review is required of treatment approaches based on molecular information and the level of evidence used to formulate practice guidelines. A collaborative effort to provide clinically-oriented guidelines on the management of metastatic breast cancer was evident during the development of the 2015 European School of Oncology/European Society for Medical Oncology guidelines for the treatment of advanced breast cancer.

Session Outline

Faculty will discuss 2-3 patient stories to highlight the factors that impact treatment decisions in metastatic breast cancer. The presentation will be interactive featuring the use of iPads throughout the session. The following areas will be discussed:

  • The role of biomarker testing in personalizing treatment
  • MBC clinical guidelines and quality measures
  • Safety and efficacy of single agents and combination regimens for HR+ and HER2+
  • Novel agents in clinical development and currently recruiting trials
